Sardinia, here I come!

by Emiel Elgersma on December 11th, 2007

Only 10 hours and I will be on the Italian island Sardinia. But first I have to get at airport Weeze, just across the Dutch-German border. Not a problem, you guess.

But there are no trains or busses going from The Netherlands towards the airport. Only a 20 euro bus from Utrecht, but as I can travel for free this is not a good option. My first idea was hitchhike, but it is too much risk of missing the flight. Second option: go to the border by bus and walk 10 kilometer. But yesterday I decided to do some more searching.

From Lunetten I go to ‘s Hertogenbosch, to Nijmegen, all by train. Then I take a bus to Kleve in Germany. From there I take a train to Weeze Bahnhof from where a bus goes every hour to the airport. A lot of traveling, but I guess spending around 7 euro. And the bus from Utrecht takes just 1 hour less and it means traveling first to the central station.

My flight arrives at 2030 in Aleghro in the north of Sardinia. There I will stay in one of the 4 hostels on the island.

The next day I travel to Cagliari in the south. There I will meet Paolo again and stay at his place. I met the guy last year, we traveled the Balkans for two and half weeks.
